Top Thriller/Horror Movies

I feel like I've really been neglecting my blog recently, honestly I haven't. I've had so much going off in general that I haven't felt like writing or had much at all to write about. HOWEVER I have been reading more blog posts and taking inspiration from others to write more and got a few ideas of some posts for you guys.

Since I've not been myself recently and had some time to relax and be by myself, I've spent a lot of that time on the sofa drinking coffee and watching scary-ish films. Just recently after getting Amazon Firestick I've been wanting to get into a TV series or something, everyone either likes Orange is The New Black, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Pretty Little Liars or something like that and I've nearly really gotten into things like that. Except I do enjoy the odd few episodes of Bob's Burgers every now and then, for the lols. So that's why I've gotten into movies more and particularly thrillers, horrors and sci-fi thrillers. There are millions of scary movies on the Firestick but these are some of the most recent ones I've enjoyed. Here's a little of my own review and sort of insight to each of the movies that I've enjoyed.

Please do remember all of these opinions are my own and are in no way conflicted against anyone. It's just a hobby of mine now. MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.

1- The Conjuring 2
Having seen the previous Conjuring movie, I definitely wanted to see the new one especially as it's set in 1970's London, I have a thing about old fashioned things and just love seeing eras portrayed in different ways. This movie I actually saw in the cinema with a friend of mine when it was first released, I must admit when you can see/hear a lot of the other people in the theatre jumping, gasping and generally just being scared, I admit I only jumped twice and that was only because of the suspense. Though I did have to run to my car in the dark pouring rain and rushed to drive home where I know there wasn't going to be any crazy demon nuns around. The Conjuring 2 is definitely one of the freakiest movies I've seen and especially as it's based on a true story and a follow up of the Amityville Horror. The Warren's are just awesome, I feel there should be another follow up movie just about them.

2- The Exorcism of Emily Rose
Exorcism movies are great if you like the freaky feel and demonic side of horror. This movie started off a little strange for me, I won't get it into it too much as I don't want to give it away but was slightly ruder than Im used to, that's it. There was twists and turns in this horror which I enjoyed that made it seem like someone else in the movie was to blame for certain things happening.

3- The Clown (2014)
When people say that they're afraid of clowns, it's probably because of movies like this that give them that idea. I've never actually been too bothered about clowns before and I've seen Stephen King's IT and can't say it scared me too much to say that I don't like them. The Clown is pretty weird and gory.

4- The Visit
This was a weird one, the story began seeming pretty normal and wasn't at all thrilling or scary, though things started to add up and get weirder as the movie got through the middle stages. I won't give too much away, however a young girl and her brother go on a weeks visit to see who they believe are their grandparents. Enough said, some people are pretty messed up.

5- The Boy
If creepy dolls like Anabelle don't bother you, then this is right own your street. Although pretty strange towards the end, it's the weirdness of the story that got me, quite disturbing infact. Although I actually couldn't get my head around the truth of the story which is found out later in the movie, Brahms who is 'the Boy' gives me the chills. Most probably every parents worst nightmare, but hey it's a good watch!

6- Poltergeist (2015)
Another movie that would shake any parent up by evil forces of demons in their own home. I haven't actually seen the original Poltergeist film, though I definitely would after seeing this. This 2015 remake is represented as a homage to the original. Just like the majority of thriller movies around at the moment, this is a family taunted by evil spirits within their own home, although the Poltergeist adds it's own little evil twist on certain members of the family.

7- Hush (2016)
This kind of reminded me of 'When a Stranger Calls' that we had to study in secondary school as part of our English classes, very jumpy and not quite suitable for a 14 year old kid to watch in a class full of wimpy teenage girls screeching at every scary moment. Though a little different, I felt there was an added cruelty to this movie as the main character being a lonely deaf woman who is taunted by a killer in her own home. Obviously it isn't nice if anyone is having someone try to kill them, but it's even worse when she struggles to defend herself.

8- Maggie (2015)
At first glance I didn't recon much to the thought of this movie, Im not saying I'd judge to movie from the movie poster and cover but you definitely get more of a scary feel from a movie when the poster is full of atheist symbols and demonic logos. Though once I'd gotten into this, it was one I couldn't turn off until I saw the ending. I actually really enjoy watching Abigail Breslin as I'd seen her in things like My Sister's Keeper, Signs and not to mention The Call, which is another thriller worth a watch as I've seen it a million times already. Abigail's character and some of her friends in the movie contract a deadly virus, zombies and aliens spring to mind, though it doesn't go as far as eating people..

9- Before I Wake
This being more of a supernatural thriller at first I couldn't see the thrilling side of the movie until things turned a little strange for the little boy and his family which are affected by crazy dreams that turn into a real life nightmare. I must admit, as it wasn't quite as scary or thrilling as the other films I'd watched recently I wasn't glued to my seat to find out more and if I'm honest, I can't quite remember the ending though the mystery of the story did keep me alert despite how strange.

10- The Abandoned/Krampus/The Forest
From the list of recent thriller and horror movies that'd I'd watched these were the few that I felt the most overexagerated and silly to put it bluntly. The Abandoned had a useless finish, mostly like when you're trying to write a story and can't think of an ending so everything that has gone on in the story ends up being a waste of time because it was all just a dream anyway, things just didn't add up and I wasn't easily impressed with it. Krampus I had wanted to watch a while back around Christmas when it had first came out into cinema's as Krampus is a meaning for non believers in Santa Claus, it's gory and little bit of fun I guess but I was hoping for more from the story than just crazily thought of animals and toys attacking an innocent family. Quite laughable actually. The Forest was one I couldn't get into and didn't quite understand the aspect of, though the idea and thought of a sort of tainted forest does sound a little spooky.

(Krampus)

I hope I haven't let on too much about some of these spooky films I've enjoyed and you should go ahead and watch them yourself, let me know what you think!

Can you recommend any thriller or horror movies for me to watch?
