Healthy Green Smoothie

Green smoothies are the in thing to be drinking right now! Especially for weight loss, detoxing or just getting in your 5 a day. Possibly the best way to get in plenty of goodness and nutrients in no time at all. This recipe took me at the most 15 minutes? But that was because I had to chop all my fruit and veg before hand and I'm terrible with knives. To save time I sometimes like to pre make my smoothies so that I can have one for breakfast and one for lunch or even refrigerate them in bottles for the next day. These kind of smoothies are good for you as you know exactly what they contain, there's no added crap and all the goodness gives you plenty of energy and helps keep your body full to stop you snacking throughout the day.

You will need;
  • 2 Chunks of Cucumber
  • 1 Mango
  • 2 Hand fulls of spinach or kale, your choice.
  • 1 Kiwi
  • 1 Stick of celery
Please note, if you don't like any of these fruits or vegetables don't be afraid to swap for anything else. I'm not a fan of celery and I had this idea that in a smoothie you wouldn't taste it being with the other vegetables, but I was wrong it still had the strong taste at the end of the drink. However, there's nothing spotting you adding other veggies that you love. Carrot and Orange is gorgeous in drinks!

Make sure to chop all your fruit and vegetables carefully and appropriately for your blender or smoothie machine. Some require smaller amounts depending on the blades.

Chuck it all in!
As you can see here, I did some at a time to ensure that it was all blended thoroughly.

If you find that it takes a while for the mixture to blend, try adding small amounts of water or even coconut water for an extra health kick to help to mixture to blend a bit easier. This also helps to thin the smoothie out if it ends up really thick and lumpy.

It may look like a bottle filled with baby food or mushy peas but it is so delicious when it's done!

I really recommend giving green smoothies a try. If you're unsure, why not start with fruit you're more familiar with, maybe strawberry and banana. Or even add fruit with milk and ice cream into a blender to make a fruity milkshake. The ideas are endless!
When it comes to mixers, smoothie makers and blenders you don't need something expensive to create something simple like this. I picked mine up from Tesco for under £20 and I've used it a billion times. The blender (Breville Active Blend) comes with a bottle which you can take off and use straight away.

I hope you've enjoyed this post!
If you'd like to see more recipes let me know and comment if you give this a try!
